How to Replace Demister Pad
Step-by-Step Guide · Absorption Tower Maintenance · OEM-Spec Mesh Demister Pads
Tools & Materials Required
Prepare all supplies before disassembly.
How to Replace Demister Pad
Follow each step carefully and observe site safety procedures.

Isolate, Depressurize & Purge
Close process valves, stop pumps, vent to atmosphere, purge hazardous mist and lock all isolation points.
Verify zero pressure and safe atmosphere before entry.
Open Manway & Release Hold-Downs
Remove the cover, then release clamps, tie wires and upper beams compressing the pad.
Store clean hardware in a sealed container.
Remove Pad & Inspect Support
Lift evenly, reject corroded or permanently fouled mesh, and clean the grid and seating ring.
Do not reuse mesh that is thin, torn or severely sagged.
Install New Pad Without Gaps
Lay the pad flat, fit edges to the vessel wall and fill section joints with matching mesh strips.
Never fold or crease the mesh.
Secure, Seal & Test
Reinstall hold-downs without crushing the pad, fit a new manway gasket and test at low gas flow.
Monitor carryover and pressure drop for two full cycles.Safety Requirements
These measures are mandatory throughout the replacement process.
Confined-Space Controls
Use permits, isolation, ventilation and a safety harness.
Chemical & Eye PPE
Wear respirator, gloves and eye protection during entry and washing.
Cool & Store Correctly
Cool hot surfaces and keep spare pads clean and dry.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Avoid these errors to prevent leakage, damage and premature failure.
Dual-density mesh installed upside down causes carryover.
Creates bypass or excessive pressure drop.
Shortens life and allows sagging or poor capture.
